So, who is Sheryl Sandberg and what does she know about equality in the workplace? Well, she started off as a business consultant for McKinsey & Company after graduating from business school in 1995. After a year there Sandberg was hired as Chief of Staff to the US Secretary of Treasury at the time, Larry Summers. There she played an integral role in helping Asia through their financial crisis, under the watchful eye of Bill Clinton. By 2001 she had secured herself a job at Google, as Vice President of Global Online Sales and Operations. Sheryl held onto this role for 7 years, before meeting Mark Zuckerberg at a party. This chance meeting got her a job at Facebook HQ, where she quickly focused on how Facebook could be made profitable. By 2012 she had become the first female member to sit on Facebook’s board of directors. Today, Sheryl Sandberg is the Chief Operating Officer of the social network giant and has been listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
